Post subject: Interval/Time-lapse function on digital (foto)camera
Archived from groups: rec>photo>digital (more info?)

Hi people,

I'm looking for a digital camera with an interval/time lapse function
on it. What I wanne do is shooting pictures with a time
difference(establishing 1 second to 1 hour or something like that)
between every picture where I am able to manually set the used time.
I've seen the Ricoh Caplio R4 and the Nikon Coolpix S5 have this
feature. Are there any more cameras which have this option on board and
with a price approximately of 300-400 euro and what are your
suggestions(or tell me what you think is a excellent camera)?

Thanks in advance.
Paul

Alternatively, you might choose cameras that can
be used remotely from a computer, and implement
your requirment using a small script.

Hi Rutger,

I've looked it up and the Zigview sounds very interesting. I think it's
what I'm looking for and the other extra features makes a simple camera
even more advanced. Thanks for the tip. Another question is maybe hard
to answer but do you have any addresses(websites/shops) where I can buy
the Zigview in The Netherlands or else within Europe? I'm an inhabitant
of The Netherlands that's why.

What I meant was the word "dslr" but I was googling around and came
across that word many times so now it's clear to me. Not experienced
yet with photography is my weakness!(But hopefully in the future maybe
becoming a good one!)

Thanks anyway.

The Canon S1 IS has the feature you are looking for. I would expect the
current model (S3 IS) also has it.

Hello, Paul:

My Kodak P850 has this function, although I've never tried it. Here's a
quote, from page 31 of the camera's user's guide:

"Camera takes specified number of pictures (2-99) at specified
intervals (10 seconds-24 hours; 60 seconds-24 hours in TIFF
& RAW."

The P850 was introduced about 2 years ago, and has since become
comparatively inexpensive, especially as Kodak makes new additions
(e.g., P712) to its "P" series of digicams. It's certainly in your
"300-400 euro" range, currently. (I paid $229.99USD for mine, last
May.)

Good luck!

Hello, Paul:

Correction: The Kodak P850 debuted, last August (2005).

Sorry, about that! Wink

Hi John,

Thanks for your reply. I was investigating the features of the Kodak
P850 you mentionend but als the new P712 digital camera. Both have the
feature I want but which do you recommend(if you know anything about
the P712 off course)?

Thanks.

<cut prior messages, for brevity>

Hello, Paul:

The brand-new P712 is now in the $430-$510 (USD) price range, so
it's probably outside your present budget. The Kodak Web site
<http://www.kodak.com> has detailed information on both cameras:

KODAK EASYSHARE P712 Zoom Digital Camera
http://www.kodak.com/eknec/PageQuerier.jhtml?pq-path=7382&pq-locale=en_US

KODAK EASYSHARE P850 Zoom Digital Camera
http://www.kodak.com/eknec/PageQuerier.jhtml?pq-path=9/19/7372/7391&pq...cale=en

Briefly, the P712 leads the P850, in megapixels (7.1 versus 5.1), and
also includes these added benefits:

"Best-in-class .07 second picture capture"

"Panorama stitch mode"

If none of the above are important to you, however, the P850 is the
far more economical choice. (Incidentally, it's recommended to upgrade
its firmware to version 1.01, if necessary; that's what I did, after
downloading the required file, from Kodak's site.)

Whatever you decide, please return and tell us how everything went! <g>
