Has anyone noticed or, better still, tried the "Slide and
Negative Digital Picture Converter" that Hammacher Schlemmer is
advertising for $99.95? It's 5MP sensor might offer quality
similar to the average digital camera and thus give enough
resolution for all but people who want to crop a lot. After all,
10MP only increases the resolution by about 1.4.

Generally, I observe that their prices are quite high. I have an Epson
Photo scanner - does slides and negatives plus regular scanning - I
purchased refurb from the Epson online store. Works quite well.

I have an Epson 2480 Photo Scanner that I bought new
from Dell some years ago for $80. They probably have
better ones now, but I'm very pleased with the one I've
got. It scans positive prints, positive slides, and
35 mm and 60 mm negatives and does, especially for the
price, a really nice job. The software seems to me
really good too.

Also, for scanner info, try rec.periphs.scanners.

The experts there can give you lots of advice.

I've just found that the scanner will not be shipping until
October so it is unlikely that I will find anyone who has tried
it. I will find it interesting to see how well it works.
