I would say that you need to pay more attention to your background. #1,
for example, has a dark background with dark clothing. The people do
not quite disappear into it and there is a distracting white rectangle
in the upper left corner.
The over-exposed #2 and #5 are a look that is becoming popular in some
circles, but again the background needs to be cleaner and you have to
watch for burned highlights.
Too many of the pictures are tilted just enough to look odd but not
enough to convey any other sense.

Taking a basic photography course might also help. Or, use the library and
check out some basic photography books. >> Stay informed about: Girls adore the D300... |

In all fairness, I don't think he was shooting for 'perfect composition'
so much as "Look! I've got a new camera!!". The request for critiques
may have been misplaced. Request for advice on lighting and composition
might have been more appropriate.

Finally someone who understands. Yes, it was "hey, look I got a camera and
it works." After I posted the pics I understood that the light went wrong
beacuse of several setup mistakes I made. But darn, I haven't quite
finished the 450 page manual.
The pictures I took were done in about 5 minutes, because it was friday
night and the girls wanted to go paint the town. No time for relaxing and
getting in a "mood".
But I think they're not all that bad. I've seen worse showed here.
I'll show some more later. The weather is kind of shitty today, but it's
Portugal and it might clear up in minutes.
The lightning I already know about. Soem say the black clothes and
background merged etc. Who cares? It was the first time this blonde girl
agreed to take pictures. She's a friend of my step daughter and is very shy.
So maybe later we get some better pictures. After all, a photographer
depends on his models, just as much as the other way around. So hopefully I
get to shoot her again, with some more time and "talk" her thru it.
I do think she's good looking (of course I see her "live") and has very
beautiful big brown eyes.
Thanks and Até breve (until soon)
