Greetings,

I've been looking around the local stores for a HP Flatbed scanner and no
one seems to have any, when they formerly carried 4 to 5 models. Is HP
discontinuing their flat bed line or perhaps introducing a whole new line?
Sales people (kids) look at you like your nuts when you aske them.

Thanks

Mark

Hah! I just had to replace my venerable HP ScanJet 4c (with SCSI adaptor).
Went to CompUSA and MicroCenter, neither of which carried a healthy
selection of flatbeds. Multifunction printer/scanner/fax, sure, but flatbeds
aren't as exciting as they used to be, I guess.

There's always bhphotovideo.com and other online vendors...

We just bought an HP 4490 Photo as a backup for some larger format negatives
we scan. As we wanted it quickly - i.e with in a few hours we had to go to
PC world.

My HP flatbed (which I picked up last year from a junk pile)
started acting up badly, and I found several flatbeds to
order online and in stores. I got an Epson Perfection 3490
Photo for $95 at Best Buy. To get that price, you order
online and pickup at the store. It is quite a nice scanner,
with good features and included software. It was
well-reviewed in PC World. I was looking towards getting a
slide scanner anyway, and the Epson printer will do the job.
It doesn't have enough resolution to get all the image
detail possible, but I think it will be enough for prints up
to 5X7" and maybe 8X10".
