Should I point out that love is an irrational emotion. Smile

What give you the impression that *rational* is better than
*irrational* ??? Where did you pick up that warped idea?

Nevermind, I don't want to know.

So why do you think Nikon is so much better than Canon?

I don't believe she said she believed Nikon was better, only that she
loved Nikon. I believe a very good case can be made for either camera.
Both are worthy of respect. My fingers know Canon better so for me that is
the better choice. With Nikon, I would have to re-learn their control
systems. Something I did many years ago when I ended up switching from
Nikon to Canon.

Having used Nikon for years I am thinking of going Canon for DSLR. It
is very clear to me that Canon point and shoot cameras are superior to
Nikon. I really like my S5. I also like the menu system.

Also I think that in the cheaper DSLRs Canon DRXSi is better than the
Nikon D40 D60. In the more advanced it depends on the model but I think
they both produce comparable results.

I prefer going with one mfg for all my digital needs.

Measekite,

I am not convinced that this is a good argument. I suspect that different
teams are responsible for DSLR and Compact cameras, and that brand loyalty
between ranges may not provide your best choice.

I suggest you try both brands in the shop - Nikon and Canon - and see
which is better to hold and operate (e.g. when wearing gloves etc.). For
me, Nikon was better than Canon. Not having any lenses, I was free to
choose. The lack of spot metering on the Canon was a further drawback,
and Nikon has a better range of lenses (at good prices).

Some folk also regard Sony and Pentax highly, so perhaps you should give
them a look? You will be used to in-lens IS, and you may want to look for
that in your DSLR as well.

Cheers,
David
