Of course he should "back down." He's lying. It's the health care rationing
inevitable in the Democrat plan(s) that will have people dying while they're
waiting for treatment. This Grayson banana is taking the Democrat scheme and
trying to say it's Republicans who will be responsible for its horrid
results. That won't fly -- the voters aren't quite that stupid and nine
months of Obama have made many of them less stupid than they were in
November.

They're in office *now* because millions of people were gullible enough to
buy Obama's and the Dems' snake oil. Now they're waking up, Obama and the
Democrats are plunging in the polls, --

http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/obama_administ...ion/dai

http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/mood_of_americ...eneric_

Obama's approval index has dived from +23 in January to -11 now -- about as
low as it's ever been.

And note that the only reason the Democrat congresscritters have regained
some of the edge the Republicans have on them in the polls in recent weeks
is that they, the *Democrats*, have been dropping support for Obama's
ruinous health care and economic policies. It's being driven home to them
that the American people don't want that huge government takeover of
everything and astronomical national debt. So even with a large Democrat
majority in the House and a veto-proof Democrat Senate, Obama's radical
leftist dreams and hopes are stuck in the mud and not going anywhere any
time soon. Thank heavens.

After the 2010 elections Obama won't have that edge in the Congress anymore,
either. So we have a fairly good chance of avoiding the economic catastrophe
Obama would lead us into if he had his way. Let's hope so.

Just more of Thong's political garbage - probably designed to deliberately
dilute the group.

(A) There is no such thing as "Obamacare": it's only a slur invented
by far right fruitloops to describe any change whatsoever from the
present system.

(B) The last time anyone looked, the White House didn't control
Newsweek's content. Or vica-versa.

(C) The insurance companies have already been "Pulling the Plug on
Granny" for decades now. And funding multi-million-dollar executive
pay packages and golden parachutes with the profits they've reaped
thereby. (And "reaped" *is* the word.)

Unfortunately, health care rationing such as you are describing above, must
necessarily happen, regardless of whether it is done by insurance companies
or the federal government. There are only a finite number of some things
that are available, and there are more patients that need these things than
there are things, so some rationing must happen. To turn your back on this
fact is to deny the realities of health care. The question is, to me, should
money be the deciding factor in the decision of who gets what, or should
something else be used to make the decision? I am an Ayn Randist, (I think
they called it "Objectivism") I am happy with letting money do the deciding
for us. Let the richest buy their hearts for their transplants. If you don't
like that, then you may organize a charity that buys hearts for the poor
children. There is nothing wrong with that. But don't pretend that there is
no rationing. This is a real world, and things won't go away just because
you turn your back on them.

Yes and no.

Insurance policies are contracts, which means there are terms and
conditions. Insurance company "rationing" does not prohibit one's
receiving health care; it refuses responsibility for payment iaw the
contract t's and c's. Under present law, the patient can (1) use
another payment method (some people have two coverages),
(2) absorb the cost personally, or (3) seek care at a subsidized
public hospital like Grady, Cook county, Harris County Hospital
District, etc. The latter has a sliding scale for payment based on
income and family size. The msg is, none of these prohibits
the patient from receiving treatment.

Under HillaryCare (designed by Ira Magaziner, now MIA)
contained criminal penalties for both the patient and the
practitioner if care was rendered *outside the federal
healthcare system*, i.e. care was prohibited. Under the
present proposals, AIUI, practitioners can be penalized
for providing patient care outside ObamaCare, a disincentive
to physicians. The message is ObamaCare or else.

MediCare currently denies payment also. The appeal time
on one of those denials (about 95% are not appealed,
because patient dies, surrenders, or gets bogged down
in the process) averages about 21 months. Right now
the hot issue is subdermal defibrillators for cardiac
arrythmias, for which I may become a candidate. MediCare
is denying about 50% of implants deemed medically
indicated by the cardiologists. FWIW, while the cost
for such an implant is about $50K, the cardiologist
makes nothing from it other than the original diagnostic
costs. The rest goes to the radiologists, surgeons,
anesthesiologists, hospital, drugs, cost for the device, etc.
Cardiologist will get another consultation fee for follow up. Period.

Short answer, "rationing" has many meanings, and insurance
co payment denials are nothing compared to what's coming
down the pike. Like the Canadian system? Try this..... in
Houston, the public/charity hospitals have more than 20
labor/delivery rooms. All of which are active. In Canada,
L/D rooms are sitting idle to save money, and the waiting
time for access to one is 10 months. (!!) Think about it!
It only takes 9 months to make the baby.....

Harrington is one of those insane wingnuts who hates Americans and
will lies ceaselessly in order to protect corporate interests. The
only "health care rationing" is the rationing that he supports and
promotes and which has been a part of the corporate agenda he
promotes.

In alternate wingnut reality, health care for all Americans is
"rationing" but health care for only 85% of Americans is not
rationing.

Interesting to note that in conjuction with the obamacare policies, a
recent Newseek magazine cover story was 'The Case for Pulling the Plug on
Granny'.

I am actually surprised that a class action wrongful death lawsuit
has not been filed over treatment denials for the elderly. Either
it is not a real issue (treatment denial) or there is some blanket
legal protection for the insurance companies.

B.S. I've had first hand experience here (with three deceased parents or
parents-in-law). Everything was done that should have been done up to the
end.

That's ObamaCare Phase Two. It's not supposed to be mentioned just yet.

Dunno about the legal requirements for a class action suit, but people
-including plenty of elderly people- sue insurance companies for
denial of treatment every single day, and some of them even win.
Eventually.

But (A) the big insurance companies can and do afford the very best
lawyers that money can buy, while Grandma has to find some back-alley
Bozo who'll take the case on a contingency basis. Next, (B) the
insurance lawyers invariably delay the case for as long as they
possibly can, hoping that (C) Grandma will give up in disgust and
settle for a fraction of what she would have collected otherwise, or
(D) Grandma will die before the suit can be settled.

Now: since we know that Grandma was ailing to begin with, *and* that
she was denied treatment for that ailment, you can see that (D)
happens quite a bit more frequently than not.

And the reason that they keep doing this is very simple: it's
*extremely* profitable.
