Is one silver and the other black?

I'm pretty sure it does support digital zoom. Panasonic's webpage
mentions the FZ20K and FZ20S, both of which 'feature' 4x digital zoom,
and apparently differ only in color (K==black, S==Silver).
The original poster might also wish to consider the fact that the
follow-on to the FZ20, the FZ30, is due to be released Real Soon Now. If
nothing else, that'll probably mean a price drop for the 20.
By the way, does anyone know what is the intended market for the LC1?
$1600 seems awfully pricey for a fixed-lens camera, no matter how nice
that lens may be. That kind of cash would buy a low-end Canon or Nikon
DSLR plus two or three reasonable lenses.

... or even the FZ5 which is lighter and cheaper, with essentially the same
optics and sensor as the FZ20, but lacking manual focus and a flash
hot-shoe. Also available in black and silver!

That too. I have an FZ5, and would recommend it highly for anyone
looking for a superzoom point&shoot.

It's aimed at David J Taylor.
It's really targeting people who want absolutely best quality in build
construction, picture quality and don't want to be a prey for wanting to
buy more lenses and don't want to carry 10 lbs of equipment. We shall
see if Panasonic has sold enough to make them want to continue this line. >> Stay informed about: Panasonic FZ20K vs FZ20BB |

The B is black and the K silver, IIRC. I've never seen a silver FZ10 or
20in the UK so can't comment on how they look in the flesh, but I don't like
the look of them on t'interweb.

Not for me! Too heavy, not enough telephoto zoom, no image stabilisation.
Admittedly the 8.8 x 6.6mm 5MP sensor is a good combination, and the
bounce flash is nice!

Judging by the cost, large sensor, Leica lens, very manual controls and
emphasis on raw mode, the LC1 and its Digilux 2 sibling are aimed at
very serious amateurs (probably Leica users already!) who want to branch out
into digital photography and retain as much of the feel of a film camera
as possible and as much control as possible over the end results.
Lovely cameras (and with a lot of 'snob appeal' in the case of the
Leica version), but definitely not right for me -- they're clearly
aimed at people who see themselves as 'serious photographers' rather
than people who enjoy photography but mainly want a camera to record
other leisure-time activities. I'd love that big sensor and the very
trad manual controls, but I *need* the zoom and stabilisation that the
cheaper FZs give me!
(Never mind, manual zoom ring on the '30... hmmmmm.... have to buy one
next year )

According to the dpreview review page for the FZ30, it is improved in a
couple of ways and (perhaps) worse in another.
Improved in that the FZ30 is 8mp (compared to the 5mp FZ20) and the
zoom is controlled by a mechanical ring (in adition to a focus-by-wire
ring like the FZ20 has).
The only thing to go "backwards" is that the FZ30 lens is not a
constant f2.8 over the whole zoom range, as the FZ20 lens is.
One thing that I don't realy know is an improvement or not is that the
lens does not retract like the FZ20 lens does when it is turned off. >> Stay informed about: Panasonic FZ20K vs FZ20BB |

That sounds pretty nice. I wonder how the price will compare to the
FZ20?

That was sort of necessitated by the bigger sensor. To keep the wide
aperture at full zoom, the whole lens assembly would have had to grow in
diameter.
A few other new features: The LCD can now fold out and
swivel/tilt. There's an 'Extended Optical Zoom' mode which really is a
sensible digital zoom, where the camera automatically crops (but doesn't
upsample) the image. It has a couple of control dials for easy manual
setting of aperture/shutter controls.

Plus: Faster startup time, space for zoom&focus rings on lens body
Minus: Bigger size when turned off

My guess is that BB is Black Body, but then K could also be black as in
CMYK. Does it matter?
I have a silver FZ20, it was great right up until they announced the
FZ30. Color-wise, I prefer the silver only because it doesn't get so hot
in the sun, not that it gets that much chance or that it would matter
that much anyway. Whatever lights your wick.
