I purchased a Kx700 and am fairly pleased with it as a printer, today I
though "I wonder what it's like scanning negatives" - I got out some old 35
mm (Olympus OM2) negatives and tried - it was hard - even though the manual
claimed to be in English, it didn't have sufficient detail to tell me how to
proceed. Finally, I now have a scan from a negative but its quality is
simply appauling! I have never taken such a poor picture (even on a box
brownie!).

Is this all I can expect, or is there something I have done wrong? Please
advise!

Roger

There must be a reason that there is a market for dedicated film / slide
scanners whose prescan gives about the quality of a final on a flatbed
scanner. I think the only thing you have done wrong was to expect
professional results.

My guess is you have the resolution set too low. Your scanner probably
supports 2400 pixels per inch, and even 1200 ppi will give you good quality.

Roger:

Don't know how many slides you have to scan or if you were just trying
it out on your Epson, but if you have a bunch you might want to check
out the Plustek OpticFilm 7200 Slide & Negative Scanner for about $205.
Here is a link where I found mine.

Thanks to all who replied, I have ordered the PlusTek 7200i and hope that it
