MSRP from Epson sites (for R2400 cartridges)
*¥1102* = $9.34 = £4.96 (Japanese price)
¥1776 = *$14.24* = £7.94 (US price)
¥2646 = $22.42 = *£11.90* (UK price)

Why is Epson MSRP 50% more in the USA than Japan?
Why is Epson MSRP more than double in UK than Japan?

1. Epson is a Japanese company.
2. The UK pays more than they should for everything.

Most usenet readers are bright enough to know better than do business
with a spammer. I personally prefer doing business by sending my money
to anonymous hong kong addresses. Someday one of them will send me the
promised product instead of ripping me off and won't that be a great deal!

Well, in fairness, with out looking deeper, that was my reaction, also.

The answer lies in international economics. Way beyond the scope of this
course, but a hint is Epson so likes the segmented markets that they
make sure the Japanese cartridges don't work in USA models.

Don't know if US Epson cartridges will work with UK printers or not.

It is the usual practice of businesses to charge "what the
traffic will bear" in each market. I'm not saying it is
right to do this, but it is normal.

Actually a truer price in Japan would be around 900 yen as Canon carts
are around that price.

Market segmentation is the answer (so this is what globalization is all
about!). UK printer companies charge over the odds so Epson marks up the
price to keep 'competition' alive.

Don't bother ordering the Japanese carts. All Epson carts are 'chipped'
and Japanese carts won't work in 'foreign' printers (I've tried).

Next time you're in the market for a printer, don't buy Epson.

The 1102 Yen is the sticker price at Yodobashi. With the in-store rebate and
tax, that's still 1050.

Especially now that Canon makes a pigment-ink printer. Having had gross
fading problems, I won't ever buy a dye-ink printer again.

Of course, how much will Canon _pigment-ink_ carts cost is a problem.
