Hey, I have a qustion.

I have heard that the older "Maxxum" Minolta lenses will work in the new
Sony model. Does anyone know if they are referring to the 35 mm film
lenses?

I am not up on the Minolta stuff like I was with the older stuff, and I
am not all that sure.

Thanks,

Rob

Yes, the Minolta AF lenses, but not the manual focus MD lenses.

Yes, but only the autofocus (AF) lenses.

Actually that isn't true. Sony did a lot more to Minolta's stuff than just
slap their name on it. A lot of the technology in the Alpha was updated by
Sony, updated considerably. At least be honest with your spewing of facts!

Rob-

As others have noted, the Minolta Maxxum or Dynax lenses are compatible.

I have one that has "power zoom". It was purchased with a 9xi, and
reportedly didn't work with older bodies. It works with the Sony Alpha.

Also, the Minolta 500mm f/8 AF Mirror lens works well. Some cameras can't
autofocus with lenses smaller than f/5.6.

I live about 15 miles from the Shuttle launch pad. During yesterday's
launch, I was able to get 48 shots off after it cleared the neighborhood
trees, before the camera lost the ability to focus on a tiny white dot in
the sky!

The solid rocket boosters could be seen as they separated from the
shuttle. By then it was many miles away, and atmospheric haze probably
limited image sharpness more than any camera or lens factor.

When are you going to post some of those photos? I would love to see them.

The old 35 mm film Maxxum AF lenses work. I am saying this because I
don't know if all Maxxum Lenses were AF or not. I know my old Rokkor
lenses aren't and won't work.

I am also under the impression that after-market Minolta AF lenses may
work. I saw a demo with the Minolta AF lenses on the Sony Alpha, but
they didn't try after-market lenses.
