I have a w5 I can use AA alkaline but not mangnese or NiCad in them, you
should be able to check first, don`t you have the CD and instruction
manual. AA Alkaline won`t last long. With out the manual you will miss
alot of features.

The Manual says you should not charge them in the Sony Battery charger (the
might blow up), and :

"If you use the above batteries, we cannot guarantee full performance of the
camera by property of the batteries, such as brownout of the batteries"

I would not use them normally, but wondered if anyone kept a pair for backup
in their case for "emergency" used them, and how they worked.

Alkaline are fine to use, but as was stated earlier, they will die a quick
death. NIMH rechargeable are best. That's what I use in my DSC-H1. Always
keep spares charged! Smile

Thanks all,

Kind of what I thought. Ok for an emergency but not for everyday work.
