Don't take what Nikon says as gospel. They may be correct in this
case but they weren't when I recently asked them about flash memory
cards. I found that a 4GB SDHC card was totally incompatible, not
being recognized at all by the D50. I spoke with a Nikon tech.
representative who confirmed that the D50 did not have an SDHC
controller, and I then asked whether a standard 4GB SD card would
work. He said that testing had only been done with cards up to 2GB,
but 4GB cards should work since the D50 supported FAT32. I then
bought a 150x 4GB card and found that while it was recognized when
inserted, it was impossible to format it in the camera. There was
nothing wrong with the card since I've been using it since in a
Canon A620. Not a big problem, since the D50 can store a good
number of images on fast, inexpensive 2GB cards. But for anyone
thinking of getting a 12GB or 16GB card, make sure that it can be
returned for either another product, credit, or a refund if it turns
out to be incompatible with the camera.
