Just took a quick pic of a carnation, using the Speedlite 430 and
a sync cord. The flash was pointed away from the flower, so it
was lit mainly with bounce flash.

Just wondering how the exposure turned out.

It was hand held, and I was in a bit of a hurry, so there might
be a bit of camera shake, too.

Any comments appreciated.

Ooops, I checked the links above and noticed a typo in the
large image link (forgot to capitalize a letter).

Here's the corrected link:

Thanks, I appreciate that info, especially the fact that it's
a bit underexposed.

I was bouncing the light off the side / back, and the flash
was fairly close to the arrangement, and was curious if it
would actually over-expose, a problem I had with my earlier
ez540 flash. This one seems a bit better.

Now, I've got to work on my flower arranging skills so I don't
end up with so much interference up front ...

Nice shot, it has a kind of abstract feel with lots of oof foreground
but works well for me. Agreed it's a tad underexposed but that adds to
the mood of mostly dark soft branches and a bright yellow flower as the
focus.

Thanks, Paul, appreciate the comments.

With the foliage in the foreground, it was a challenge getting
the focus point on the flower, had to do a lot of back and
forth jiggling and had to pay real close attention to some
rather fine movements of the lens.

But, hey, it was great practice. I kind of thought I was
paying too much attention to focusing and not enough to
keeping the cam steady, so I thought there might have been a
bit of shake to blur things.

I have to admit it's a great feeling hearing that the image
was laid out, more or less, as I imagined it.

I think the next step is to pick up a 580ex II and figure out
how to set up a nice lighting ratio.

I've set up a new blog at: http://quibblesandquips.blogspot.
com

I hope to get out-and-about a bit more in my search for
subject material.

Thanks, to you, Paul, and all the other photogs out there who
have helped me get this far, even you SZ. I know I've got a
long way to go before I get a truly good image, but I feel as
though I've turned a bit of a corner, and my work should at
least be able to pass as mediocrely good from here on.

Once again, thanks for the help.

Take Care,
Dudley

Dudley, if you enclosed that URL in brackets "<>" it would make it easier
for others to follow:

Keep up the good work, big guy!

You're right, George...the original link didn't work for me,
the first time, either. Shortly thereafter, I noticed that
I hadn't copied and pasted the entire URL (as it was broken
into two lines).

> Keep up the good work, big guy!

I saw Dudley's face, on his blog page. He looks much more
formidable that I'd imagined, judging by his restrained
posts.

Oh! No! Not the "Scent of A Woman" analogy.

He looks more like Lou Reed than Al Pacino. Even has the same scowl.

Personally, I couldn't think of anybody in particular,
at the time.

Later, the University of Illinois head football coach
(Ron Zook), came to mind.
