Looking at the announcements for PMA, only the Canon 450D, 200mm F2 and
800mm F5.6 are mentioned. So, looks like we'll have to wait until Photokina
at the end of September for the 5D replacement to be announced. Maybe.

Price! I'd love a full frame camera that was not burdened with the
price-raising features of a "sports photographer" rapid-fire camera.

I'd be perfectly happy with a full-frame 40D, which the 5D Mark II
dam well better be. Say 22 or 24 megapixels.

But right now they have a lock on the "inexpensive" FF market with the
5D or whatever else they release to replace it. And, its focusing
system works!

Perhaps Canon is keeping its powder dry until PMA opens. (Hint)

200/2 is a nice lens, but £5000 is a bit steep.

I like the 1D-III, same goes for the D3, but are a bit overkill for my use.
The 5D is a bit more discreet and you still have the benefit of a 35mm
sensor. The frame rate is a bit slow though for the occasional time I do
need to shoot something fast. A full frame 40D would do me nicely if it
were available.

i don't think canon feels there's an urgent need for the replacement. i'd
understand them if they wanted to "warm up" the interest to the camera by
introducing a number of purely qualitative upgrades in the areas of build &
finish, ergonomics, lcd size etc. (like they just did with 450d) but, firstly,
doing this is not really customary for the high-end bodies, and, secondly, the
exceptional quality of 5d build and ergonomics (not even mentioning the image
quality) still keep it well ahead of any competition. purely marketing features,
like weather sealing, dust shaker or various forms of live view are also not the
reason to hurry an upgrade.

You can sagely ignore anything posted by "Rita" who's never shown a
shred of evidence that he owns *any* equipment.

This NG is his play pen, and he'll make any statement to be in the
notice, to tweak folks, to start or continue contention. He feels he's
superior to everyone, so it's his right to mislead, misinform and play
with folks, as most here are his rightful pawns.

Why? The Rebel XTi is 10 MP. It is 1.6 crop factor.
Same size pixels in a 5D replacement would be 2.56 times
more pixels, or 25 MP. At 16 MP one would be hard pressed,
given a good enough lens, to see all that much difference
between the lowly Rebel and the 5D. At 25 MP, one would.

The pixel race is no where near over.

At the price of the D40, of course.

Is there a shred of evidence that all the other people in this group
own equipment or post links to their own images?

Is there a shred of evidence that "Rita" is a "he".

In fact, based on lack of evidence to the contrary, one could conclude
that "Rita" is really John McWilliams posting as "Rita" or Rita
posting as "John McWilliams".
