To keep a Canon lens or not - Hi all; I am about to order a Canon Digital Rebel XSi to replace my 6MP first Digital Rebel, but a question occurred to me and I honestly don't know how to answer it. I own a very nice Canon lens. It is a Canon f2.8 24-70mm UL lens, for ..

Hi Group,
First - thanks for all of the advice on cameras a little while back
(I'm the theatre guy who was diving into SLR's).
On the advice of my friend, I went the Canon route. I actually got a
used Rebel XT that was in great shape and came with some lenses as
well. Now the learning curve begins.
Three lenses that came with, I really like. The kit lens; the nifty-
fifty; and a Sigma 28-80. Most of the time, I could be happy just
shooting with the 50, but I'm learning a lot working with the other
lenses as well.
Now - the fourth lens. It is a Canon 100-200 f/4.5 lens, fully
automatic, no manual. I pretty much knew it was a piece of junk when
I got it, but it was thrown in with the camera. It has proven pretty
useful at my son's baseball games, capturing him on the mound and on
base... but beyond that, in other scenarios, I've found I'm better
working with another lens and cropping, generally speaking.
What I can't figure out though - is how to get the lens to the 200
length. Auto-focus works fine, but I don't know how to zoom in any
further. Any clues?
Thanks in advance. >> Stay informed about: Canon 100-200 f/4.5 lens |

I have not been able to find anything on that lens, but I have quite a
few Canon lenses. Usually the telephoto zooms have two rings on the
barrel of the lens; a narrow ring to focus with and a wide ring that
zooms the lens. >> Stay informed about: Canon 100-200 f/4.5 lens |

Yeah - that's the wacked out thing about this lens - no rings at all.
Entirely automatic - which confuses me on how to change the focal
length. >> Stay informed about: Canon 100-200 f/4.5 lens |

Check to se if it is a push-pull design.

But isn't it intuitive that the lens is a push-pull zoom design? That's
why there are ridged finger-grip areas on the sides. >> Stay informed about: Canon 100-200 f/4.5 lens |

That is the answer! And I suppose it would be intuitive if I wasn't
brand new to the SLR/DSLR world. Yep, push/pull, very clunky... but
at 200 it DOES get me very close.
Thanks to all!! >> Stay informed about: Canon 100-200 f/4.5 lens |
