This is a nice little camera (I have 1 too), so I hope she is
able to fine a camera repair shop that can get & install a new shutter
button. Also if a camera shop can't get the part, don't rule out the
possibility of a computer or electronics repair shop being able to
fabricate an equivalent.
What is most likely under the missing button is a tiny
membrane or micro switch. So the camera should still be able to take
pictures if you can fabricate a similarly shaped object to activate
the switch below it. A long shot but 1 might be able to use a
non-metallic clothing button of the correct size & super glue a small
nub of plastic @ it's bottom center that will activate the switch
below when pressed.
Yes this would be a Mickey Mouse, last ditch effort to save
the camera if all other options prove non-viable. But it may be worth
consideration if it comes down to that.
Moral of the story is: "Always" use the wrist or neck strap,
especially on small cameras. Watch most people & you will see that
very few do this & failure to do so is probably the single biggest
camera killer. Yes it can be an effort sometimes but even in the most
steady hands, it only takes 1 person (often a running child) to bump
into your arm & there goes the camera!
Best of luck getting it fixed. I'm not trying to pour salt
into an open wound, just hoping that this illustrates to others a
simple way to protect their cameras from a similar or worst fate.
