Is it safe to buy a digital video camera in Bangkok -- would the
warrenty be honoured in Australia?

What do you think I would save on a video camera there? In Australia
I can get a JVC digital video with 34x optical zoom, 9.5hrs recordign
time for $950 AUD ... any guess what that model would cost over there?

Thanks very much,
Charlie

I have no idea if the Thai warranty will be honored in Australia, but why
don't you just Google for the model number and "Baht?" there are some bi-
lingual websites.

Generally speaking, anything imported into Thailand carries a huge
import duty and is considerably more expensive than elsewhere. You will
need to check out pricing.

Watch the warrantee -- frequently it only applies in the country of
purchase and may be shorter than elsewhere, or perhaps you can pay extra
for an international warrantee.

Have you checked internet pricing and warranties? Also be careful that
the model you purchase is sold in your home country, else you may not
have service without going elsewhere.

Don't get your hopes up - most electrical goods are expensive in Thailand. I
have yet to see any electrical items that I would consider a real bargain
compared to what I can get in the UK (especially through shopping online).
As for the warranty - you'd have to check with the individual manufacturer
about what their policies are.

Check out Pantip Plaza on Petchaburi Road - a whole multi-storey shopping
complex dedicated to all things electrical (and quite a few things illegal
as well!!) Great fun, even if you're only window shopping.

Good Luck.
