Hi all. I just picked up my new toy today and have a couple questions.
When in "P" mode, the camera seems to meter/set exposure settings but
completely ignores whether I have the flash turned on or not
Also, is there any way to figure out what the ISO settings are when
it's set to auto??
example:
a) full auto mode, with flash, 1/60, f2.8, ISO unknown (auto set)
b) Tv mode, with flash, 1/60, f2.8, ISO 100
c) "P" mode, with flash, 0"3, f2.8, ISO 100
d) "P" mode, withouth flash, 0"3, f2.8, ISO 100
Pictures A and B turn out almost exactly the same, so that suggests
that the Auto ISO chose a rating of 100???
Picture C is over-exposed with the flash, and Picture D is properly
exposed (but with motion artifact) and this tells me that the "P" mode
is setting exposures based on no flash (even when the flash is forced
on).
Thanks for any input!! >> Stay informed about: Canon A710IS, 2 questions |

Nope.
My questions are:
Shouldn't the camera meter according to whether I have the flash on or
off (when in P mode).
and
Is there a way to find out what ISO rating was used for a specific
photograph (after the fact) when auto ISO is chosen.
Thanks >> Stay informed about: Canon A710IS, 2 questions |

Well, I found my own answer to question #1.... The camera had the
"slow synchro" option turned on in P mode. When I turned it off, the P
function now recognizes whether I have the flash on or off.
Yay!
Still wondering about the auto ISO though. >> Stay informed about: Canon A710IS, 2 questions |

Isn't this covered in the table on page 62 of the Advanced User Guide?

from my knowledge none of Canon compacts show ISO value when set on AUTO,
which is a pitty... But, you could figure it out right after shot by setting
ISO to manual, half-press shutter and observe which settings for shutter and
aperture is set---compare with those on auto---change ISO setting and
repeat, and when Av and Tv are identical, you have ISO...I know,
complicated, but only way. But, i think that normally ISO is pretty low,
around 100 and it won't go as high as, say, 400 or even more. >> Stay informed about: Canon A710IS, 2 questions |

I have an A630. If set to "Auto" and shutter button half depressed, the aperture and speed appear in the display.
