nikon has ed glass. they just don't make a big deal about it.

it's not 'much smaller' and it only affects extremely fast lenses (and
ones which canon couldn't sell i might add), not stabilized telephotos
that are used in sports photography.

they did, and coupled with the 1d mark iii focus debacle, many are
switching.

Might be some geographical/cultural differences at work. I don't know
where anyone's from, and I'm just looking for possibilities. Perhaps the
mix is different if one's talking about their small town and the local
service club golf league as versus major pro sports.

At this venue at the time the photo was taken, there are more Nikon
than Canon shooters present, though the proportion of each brand
undoubtedly changes a bit from event to event.

and another from the olympics:

It really does not how many Canon or Nikon shooters there are or for that
matter any other brand. Personally I think that Canon and Nikon are the
better and at this point I just prefer Canon but the results from Nikon is
just as good so it is a matter of preference.

While test reports indicate that Sony, Pentax and others may be a step
below the results are still top rate.

So all of the banter of what is best is bullshit since all are good. I
would personally like a 50D or a 5D/2.

exactly. put two photos side by side and nobody will be able to tell
which is which, other than a lucky guess. both nikon and canon make
excellent cameras and lenses and they each have their own strengths and
weaknesses.
