256 MB xD memory card kodak

I sent my son to camp with a Fuji A200 digital camera with a 256MB xD
memory card in it (new)..When I pickedhim up, he showed me the pictures
he took...I got home, took the card out, inserted it in the computer,
and it did nothing..put it back in the camera and it says "card error".
I cannot bring up anything onthe new card..I can on the old card...is
all lost??? My neighbors seem to think that I just need to take it
somewhere that deals with didtal photography, but they feel the
pictures are probably not lost and can be retrieved...please HELP!!!
These pictured are of my son with several Olympic swimmers....(possibly
a chance he'll never get again) molarstoo

As Rudy said, DON'T try to write anything to the card or try any kind of
format. His suggestion of a recovery program to try is a good one; it helped
me recover photos from a corrupted compactflash card. Here's a recent thread
